Court issues notice to Adiala Jail officials in Imaan Mazari, husband bail pleas case 

Hearing of bail petitions filed by human rights lawyer Imaan Mazari and her husband Hadi Ali Chattha in connection with the case registered against them at Kohsar police station of Islamabad could not continue in an anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Tuesday owing to the absence of powers of attorney of the lawyers, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The legal team, representing the couple in the case, filed a petition against the Adiala Jail officials for not signing their powers of attorney. 

Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra issued a notice to the jail officials and directed them to submit their replies on September 24.

Sipra asked couple’s lawyers whether the powers of attorney were certified. 

Zainab Janjua, one of the lawyers, said that engaging a counsel was the petitioners’ right. 

However, the judge made it clear he could not hear the petitions when the powers of attorney were not signed. 

He asked the prosecutor why the process was not being followed. 

During the hearing, Shireen Mazari, Imaan’s mother, alleged that the police beat up her daughter and her husband while arresting them.
