Veteran actor Rashid Mehmood sounds alarm over unemployment and soaring inflation
Veteran Pakistani actor Rashid Mehmood has opened up about his struggle with unemployment, health problems and soaring inflation, revealing that he has had little work for months despite spending decades in the entertainment industry.
The senior actor also spoke about the rising cost of fuel and household essentials, saying it has become increasingly difficult for him to manage everyday expenses.
In a recent video, Rashid Mehmood spoke emotionally about his current situation and said he has been suffering from joint pain for the past five months. He also revealed that he was already a heart patient and is now facing further health difficulties while remaining without work.
Rashid Mehmood said artists of his generation played an important role in building Pakistan’s television industry and introducing audiences to the art of drama. He recalled spending his entire career connected to the country, its culture and its entertainment industry, but said there is now very little work available for artists like him.
The veteran actor also spoke about the recognition he received after decades in the industry, including the Presidential Award. He said the respect and honour he received were ultimately given to him by Allah and that he had never asked anyone for such recognition.
Talking about his financial difficulties, Rashid Mehmood said the rising prices of fuel, groceries and other household necessities had become extremely difficult to manage. He mentioned spending Rs4,000 on fuel for his car and said the prices of everyday items had become increasingly difficult to afford.
He also appealed to the authorities to pay attention to the difficulties faced by people struggling with inflation, health problems and unemployment. In his emotional remarks, he questioned how people in difficult circumstances could continue to cope with the rising financial pressure.
Rashid Mehmood is known for his performances in several memorable Pakistani television productions, including Shaheen, Nizam, Kajal Ghar, Andhera Ujala, Mirza Ghalib, Riyasat and Mohabbat Rooth Jaye To. He has also earned recognition over the years for portraying strong negative characters.
His latest remarks have once again brought attention to the difficulties faced by veteran artists who have spent decades working in Pakistan’s entertainment industry.
