LHC CJ fumes at Lahore police perfomance

Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice Aalia Neelum has expressed dissatisfaction over the performance of the Lahore Police, reported 24NewsHD TV channel. 

Chief Justice Aalia Neelum on Tuesday remarked that the minds of police personnel are not functioning while they sit in air-conditioned rooms.

She directed that they be brought out of these rooms so that their minds might start working.

"Report documents are submitted in the Chief Justice's court in a topsy-turvy and poor state," remarked the Chief Justice.

"What must police officers be doing in other courts?" asked Chief Justice Aalia Neelum. 

However, CCPO Bilal Siddique Kamyana expressed a commitment in the court that he will undertake efforts to improve the police system.

The court summoned the petitioner regarding a five-year-old contempt of court plea filed against the CCPO.

Chief Justice Aalia Neelum heard the petition filed by citizen Momin Khan.

The petitioner had filed the contempt of court plea against CCPO Fayyaz Ahmed in 2021.

CCPO Bilal Siddique Kamyana appeared alongside DIG Admin Imran Kishwar. Additional Advocate General Muhammad Naveed Sheikh and Assistant Advocate General Waqas Umar also appeared.

"What is the matter? Has your attitude towards the courts changed just because you stopped being summoned?" the Chief Justice asked the CCPO.

"If this is how you treat this court, how would you be treating other courts?" remarked the Chief Justice. 

The CCPO stated that departmental action is being initiated against the officers who submitted the report yesterday. The CCPO added that a notice has been issued to the SP Operations, and an explanation has been sought from the ASP.

"Action is taken against these police officers, yet it yields no results," the Chief Justice observed.

"Why shouldn't we summon the record of actions taken on court orders against police officers over the past five years?" the Chief Justice asked.

The CCPO replied that they make every effort to ensure court orders are implemented.

The Chief Justice directed to complete the proceedings initiated yesterday against the police officers and submit a report.

Chief Justice remarked that the situation has reached this point because the court did not question you for some time.

"Our judges reported on the police's performance and the manner in which they submit their reports," remarked the Chief Justice.

Chief Justice remarked that courts are fully aware of the police's conduct.

"God willing, this will not happen again," CCPO Bilal Siddique Kamyana assured the court.

"If this happens again, we will not rely on your report," the Chief Justice warned the CCPO.

The court summoned the petitioner and adjourned the hearing until tomorrow.
