Senate passes National Security Council (Amendment) Bill
House also okays three other private member bills unanimously
The Senate on Monday passed four private member bills including the Zakat and Ushr (Amendment) Bill, 2025, the Islamabad Capital Territory Prohibition of Corporal Punishment (Amendment) Bill, 2022, the National Security Council (Amendment) Bill, 2023 and the Code of Criminal Procedure (Amendment) Bill, 2024, unanimously, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The bills were moved by Zamir Hussain Ghumro, Saadia Abbasi and Shahadat Awan in the House. The House passed the bills through clause-by-clause reading.
Meanwhile, Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani referred two bills including the Al-Biruni International University Bill, 2025 and the Corporate Social Responsibility Bill, 2026 to the concerned standing committees for detailed discussion.
Senators Khalid Tahir and Sherry Rehman moved the bill to provide for the establishment of Al-Biruni International University Islamabad (The Al-Biruni International University Bill, 2025) and the Corporate Social Responsibility Bill, 2026 in the House.
Earlier, four bills were laid before the Senate. These included: Islamabad Real Estate Regulation and Development Amendment Bill, 2026, Pakistan Penal Code Amendment Bill, 2026, the Offence of Zina (Enforcement of Hudood) Amendment Bill, 2026 and the Majority Amendment Bill, 2026.
The chair referred the bills to the standing committees concerned.
Earlier, the House Business Advisory Committee (HBAC) of the Senate met at the Parliament House Islamabad.
The Committee, presided over by the Chairman Senate, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, discussed in detail the legislative business to be transacted during the 359th Session of the Senate.
Besides legislative business, the session would take up discussion on the current situation of important national and international issues. The HBAC decided that the current session is likely to continue till 3rd March, 2026.
The meeting was attended by Senator Raja Nasir Abbas, Leader of the Opposition, Senator Rana Sanaullah Khan, Senator Sherry Rehman, Senator Manzoor Ahmad, Senator Haji Hidayatullah Khan, Senator Kamran Murtaza, Senator Amir Walli ud Din Chishti, Senator Kamil Ali Khan, Minister for Law & Justice Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, and Secretary Senate Syed Hasnain Haider.
The Secretary Senate briefed the Committee about the legislative business to be transacted during the current session.
