PML-N gains simple majority in NA courtesy mega win in by-polls

After the PML-N won all six seats in the National Assembly (NA) in yesterday’s by-elections, the party is no more dependent on the PPP for a simple majority, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday.

The PML-N, with 132 seats, has emerged as the largest political party in the lower House of the parliament.

The party is now in a position to do legislation in collaboration with its allies.

In a 336-member House, the party has gained a simple majority of 170 members as it enjoys the support of 22 MNAs of the MQM-P, five of the PML-Q, four of the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP), one MNA of Pakistan Muslim League-Zia, Balochistan Awami Party (BAP), National Party each and four independents.

For a simple majority, a party needs 169 MNAs.

PPP has 74 members in the House. But now the PML-N will be able to enact laws with the support of small parties.
