It is pertinent to note that Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi on June 21 had congratulated Bozkir the UNGA president and invited him to Pakistan. Bozkir has been elected President for 75th Session of the UN General Assembly this year.
Qureshi said in a letter, “On behalf of the people and government of Islamic Republic of Pakistan, I would like to extend my warm felicitation on your unanimous election by all member states as the President of the historic 75th Session of the UN General Assembly,”
Bozkir is the first Turkish national to head the UNGA and he will take office in September and hold the post for one year. He is currently a ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party lawmaker from Istanbul and head of the Turkish parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee.
This year in February United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres visited Pakistan with a 14-member delegation and praised Pakistan’s commendable role in hosting Afghan refugees.
