Internet services restored in Islamabad and Rawalpindi after fibre fault

Internet services have been fully restored in Islamabad and Rawalpindi after an optical fibre fault affecting a telecom operator’s network was repaired, according to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority.

According to the 24NewsHD TV channel report, the PTA said the fault had been identified and fixed, following which internet services were completely restored in the two cities.

Earlier on Sunday, internet services were disrupted in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, affecting the mobile internet networks of several major telecom companies.

Users reported problems with services provided by Jazz, Ufone, Zong, Telenor and PTCL. Many customers were unable to access mobile data services during the disruption.

The outage also affected mobile banking and digital payment applications, including Easypaisa and JazzCash. Users reported difficulties accessing the services while internet connectivity remained disrupted.

Several social media platforms and other websites and applications were also affected, with users reporting problems accessing and using online services.

The cause of the disruption was not immediately known when the outage was first reported. The PTA has now confirmed that the optical fibre fault has been repaired and internet services have returned to normal.
