Two dead, two missing as flash floods hit Mansehra, Battagram

At least two people were killed and two others went missing after torrential rain and flash floods struck parts of Mansehra and Battagram districts, inundating roads, damaging houses and sweeping away livestock.

In Mansehra city and surrounding areas, a sudden spell of heavy rain accompanied by hail hit shortly before sunset, flooding roads and turning several areas into pools of water.

During the downpour, a woman and a child were swept into a drain on Akbar Khan Road.

Rescue officials recovered the woman’s body near Lari Adda, while a search operation was continuing for the missing child.

In the Kund area of Allai tehsil in Battagram district, flash floods killed a five-year-old boy, while a seven-year-old girl was swept away by rushing water.

Battagram police said the floods destroyed 15 houses and damaged several shops and homes.

Several livestock were also washed away in the floodwaters.

The district administration dispatched heavy machinery and rescue teams to the affected area.

Relief and rescue operations were underway with the assistance of local residents.
