Shehbaz, Pezeshkian discuss bilateral ties, regional situation
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, with the two leaders discussing bilateral relations and the evolving regional situation.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi and senior officials from both sides also attended the meeting.
Shehbaz and Pezeshkian reaffirmed the close and longstanding ties between Pakistan and Iran and stressed the need to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in all areas of mutual interest.
The two leaders also exchanged views on regional developments.

Prime Minister Shehbaz expressed concern over the prolonged conflict in the region and stressed the need for restraint, de-escalation and sustained diplomatic engagement to achieve lasting peace and stability.
He also underscored the importance of implementing the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding and reaffirmed Pakistan’s readiness to continue playing a constructive role in support of regional peace and stability.
President Pezeshkian appreciated Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts for regional peace and security.
He said Pakistan-Iran relations were rooted in shared history, culture and faith and reaffirmed Tehran’s desire to further deepen cooperation with Islamabad across multiple sectors.
Both sides stressed the importance of maintaining regular consultations and close coordination to address prevailing challenges and explore opportunities for greater cooperation.
They agreed to continue working together for regional peace, security and prosperity.
