Pakistan forces foil Afghan Taliban incursion in Gulistan sector: sources

Pakistani security forces thwarted an attempted incursion by Afghan Taliban fighters in the Gulistan sector along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border on Thursday, security sources said.

According to the sources, Afghan Taliban personnel attempted to enter Pakistani territory and opened hostilities, prompting security forces to respond.

Several Afghan Taliban fighters were killed in the retaliatory action, the security sources claimed.

Intermittent exchanges of fire were continuing in the border area, while Pakistani security forces remained on alert, according to the sources.

They said security forces were prepared to respond to any further attempt to enter Pakistani territory from Afghan soil.

The reported clash comes amid heightened tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Earlier on Thursday, Pakistan said it had carried out strikes on 10 locations in Afghanistan after accusing drones launched from Afghan territory of violating Pakistani airspace. Afghanistan rejected Pakistan’s account of the events and said four civilians were killed in the strikes.
