PA to hold virtual meetings as part of austerity measures

The Punjab Assembly Secretariat has decided to hold meetings of its standing committees online as part of austerity measures aimed at reducing consumption of petroleum amid the international oil crisis, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.

The decision has been taken in view of the federal government’s ongoing austerity campaign, under which public institutions are being encouraged to reduce unnecessary use of petroleum products.

The Punjab government will 50 percent expenditure on transport. All unnecessary lights and electricity equipments will be switched off in a bid to save energy.

The Assembly session will be summoned before sunset. A complete ban is also imposed on the purchase of government vehicles.

A complete ban is also imposed on the foreign visits of Punjab Assembly members and officials.

No dinner will be arranged for the foreign dignitaries. Those officials who are granted exemption from foreign tours will travel in economy class.

The expenditure incurred on daily edible items will also be reduced. The paperless culture will be promoted in the government offices.

The Secretary-General of Punjab Secretariat will ensure complete implementation of these austerity measures.
