US Consulate General Karachi Marks “Freedom 250” and Celebrates American Excellence

The U.S. Consulate General in Karachi hosted a “Freedom 250” reception to honor 250 years of American independence and excellence, and to celebrate the enduring ties between the United States and Pakistan.

The evening brought together prominent leaders from across Sindh’s public and private sectors.  Syed Awais Qadir Shah, Speaker of the Sindh Assembly, attended as the Chief Guest, while Sindh Governor Syed Nehal Hashmi served as the Guest of Honor.  U.S. Consul General Charles Goodman welcomed guests representing government, business, academia, civil society, media, the diplomatic corps, and U.S. exchange program alumni.

Centring on the theme, “The American Brand,” the event showcased American innovation, enterprise, and creativity.  The celebration paid tribute to the foundational ideals of July 4, 1776, echoed President Donald J. Trump’s national emphasis on America’s lasting principles, and reaffirmed Chargé d’Affaires Natalie Baker’s message that a strong Pakistan benefits America, and a strong America benefits Pakistan.

In his remarks, Consul General Goodman reflected on the deep-rooted friendship between the two nations, tracing back to Pakistan’s independence.  He stated Sindh has been crucial to the partnership and highlighted growing U.S. commercial ties in the province.

“Lasting stability is built on economic prosperity, and our consulate team in Karachi plays a vital role in unlocking that potential across Sindh and Balochistan,” he said.  “The U.S. government steadfastly supports more than 80 U.S. firms operating here... last year, U.S.-Pakistan trade surpassed $11 billion in goods and services, benefitting both our nations,” Mr. Goodman added.

Sindh Governor Hashmi highlighted the deep-rooted partnership between both nations.  “For our generation, contributing [to the future of our nations] increasingly means knowledge, education, creativity, and technology.  It means connecting American innovation with Pakistani talent, American universities with Pakistani students, American entrepreneurs with Pakistani entrepreneurship, and Karachi with the wider global economy,” he said.

Speaker Awais Shah congratulated the United States on its 250th anniversary, noting the partnership’s impact on Sindh through education, economic opportunity, and cultural exchange.  He voiced confidence in deeper and sustainable collaboration for the future.

Freedom 250 is a year-long campaign U.S. diplomatic missions globally have organized to commemorate the 250th year of the signing of the U.S. Declaration of Independence.  President Trump launched the national celebration under the banner, “A New Era of American Greatness,” and U.S. embassies and consulates have since carried that spirit to every corner of the globe.
