Punjab govt to set up Maryam Nawaz Institute of Paediatric

The Punjab government decided to establish the 352-bed Maryam Nawaz Institute of Pediatric Health Sciences in Nawaz Sharif Medical City in Lahore district, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday.

A review proposal in this regard has already been forwarded to the Planning and Development Board PC-1.

The revised cost of the project, including the Maryam Nawaz Institute, has been set at more than Rs 17.76 billion.

As per the documents, an amount of Rs 2 billion is already allocated for the Maryam Nawaz Institute of Paediatrics. 

Children will get free medical education and other health facilities from the Maryam Nawaz Institute of Paediatrics. Sources said that the P&D Board will approve the projects after necessary scrutiny.

It is necessary to mention here that the Punjab government has approved plans to build three major hospitals in Lahore under the Nawaz Sharif Medical City project in LDA City. A total of 216 acres have been allocated for the healthcare development.

The planned facilities include the 352-bed Maryam Nawaz Institute of Pediatric Health Sciences and a 175-bed institute covering burn care, plastic surgery and trauma treatment. The estimated costs are Rs8 billion and Rs6.15 billion respectively.

A third facility, the Nawaz Sharif Institute of Genetic Blood Diseases, is planned at the same location with an estimated cost of Rs10 billion. The Infrastructure Development Authority Punjab has been assigned responsibility for construction.
