Stroke Centers to be established in every Punjab division: CM Maryam

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif chaired a meeting in which a decision was made to establish stroke centers in every division across the province, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

As many as 40 Primary Stroke Centers are already fully operational in Punjab, while the government has set a target to make 17 more centers functional by December.

Under the Chief Minister’s Stroke Program, 336 stroke patients have been saved from permanent disability after reaching designated stroke centers in time following a stroke attack.

Trained doctors and staff are available at the 40 Primary Stroke Centers, where 710 Tenecteplase (TNK) injections are also available for the treatment of stroke patients.

A meeting held in Lahore on Monday awas informed that neuro-angiography suites will be established this year at Teaching Hospital Rawalpindi, Allied Hospital Faisalabad, Nishtar-II Multan, and Teaching Hospital Sargodha.

Comprehensive Stroke Centers are already operational at the Punjab Institute of Neurosciences in Lahore and the Rawalpindi Institute of Cardiology.

In Lahore, Primary Stroke Centers have been established at Services Hospital, Mayo Hospital, Ganga Ram Hospital, Jinnah Hospital, General Hospital, Children’s Hospital, and Shahdara Teaching Hospital. 

Stroke-treatment injections are also available at Nishtar Hospital Multan, Allama Iqbal Hospital Sialkot, Sheikh Zayed Hospital Rahim Yar Khan, Holy Family Hospital Rawalpindi, Allied Hospital Faisalabad, Victoria Hospital Bahawalpur, and Allama Iqbal Hospital Dera Ghazi Khan. 

Primary Stroke Centers are operational at District Headquarters (DHQ) hospitals in Sheikhupura, Mandi Bahauddin, Kasur, Khanewal, Vehari, and Multan, while stroke-treatment injections are available at DHQ hospitals in Bhakkar, Layyah, Gujranwala, Narowal, Jhang, Jhelum, Toba Tek Singh, Sahiwal, and Gujrat. 

The government has also established stroke centers at Children’s Hospitals in Multan and Faisalabad, Sadiq Abbasi Hospital Bahawalpur, Nishtar-II, Teaching Hospital Sargodha, and Allied Hospital-II Faisalabad.

CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif has now departed for Islamabad on a special aircraft.
