Rahat Fateh applauds Diljit Dosanjh for honouring Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan
Pakistani qawwali maestro Rahat Fateh Ali Khan has showered praise on Indian singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh for his heartfelt rendition of the iconic qawwali Saanso Ki Maala, originally popularised by the legendary Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.
A viral video making the rounds on social media features Rahat commending Diljit for taking on a song associated with one of the most celebrated voices in qawwali. He acknowledged that singers can feel nervous while performing Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s compositions, but said Diljit managed to do justice to the classic with genuine feeling.
Speaking about Diljit’s performance, Rahat said, “Koi bhi singer ho, woh Khan Sahab ka gana gaate hue ghabra jata hai, magar Diljit bhai ne jitna insaaf ke saath, jitna woh kar sakay, apne dil ke saath kiya, woh humein nazar bhi aaya hai aur humein sunai bhi de raha hai. So, I will appreciate this.”
Rahat’s remarks came after Diljit performed Saanso Ki Maala Pe Simroon Main Pee Ka Naam during one of his massive live concerts. The timeless composition is closely associated with Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, whose powerful vocals helped take qawwali to audiences around the world.
