Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi slams KP govt over Police Act
Raising questions over the KP Police Act, 2026 passed by the provincial cabinet on September 23, Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi on Saturday said that under the law, seeking KP Assembly speaker’s permission was necessary before arresting an MPA, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
In a post uploaded on X platform, Mohsin Naqvi said that the law made it binding on the police to seek permission from the speaker even if an MPA was wanted in connection with a criminal case.
“Will the police still await the speaker’s nod if an MPA has committed murder?” he questioned.
“Why is there a separate law for MPs in KP,” the minister questioned.
“Is this the concept of the ‘State of Medina’ in the eyes of PTI leaders?” Naqvi questioned.
Now in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, even if an MPA is accused of a criminal offence, the police must first seek the Speaker’s permission before arresting him.
