Head of family found dead at Karachi flat was cancer patient, reveals probe

An investigation into the deaths of a man, his wife and three children, whose bodies had been found from a Karachi flat a few days ago, has revealed that Dr Umar, the family head, who worked at a private hospital at Ahsanabad locality of the city, was suffering from cancer, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.  

It has been further disclosed that in August, the deceased had resigned from his post. 

The investigators have also recorded the statements of the owner of the flats and their residents who told that the doctor was suffering from financial issues. 

They informed that monthly rent of Dr. Umar’s flat was Rs14,000, and he had not paid the rent for the month of September. 

They told the investigators that so pathetic was the situation that Umar was forced to sell his household items.

But the neighbours, instead of buying these items, tried to help him financially, investigators were told.

It has also come to light that neither the deceased family had a car nor a motorcycle, and in order to commute, they would have to hire a taxi. 

The investigators have neither found cellphone of Dr. Umar nor of his wife.

However, as per call data of Dr. Umar, which has been obtained, the last call he received was on September 14.

The investigators are probing the incident from different angles.

On Tuesday, 24News TV channel reported that the bodies of a doctor, his wife, and their three children, who were found dead in a flat in Karachi’s Ahsanabad area, have been handed over to their relatives for burial.

According to 24NewsHD TV, the bodies were recovered from the residential apartment a day earlier.

The deceased woman, Mahwish’s father, Jamshed Iqbal, and Dr Umar’s elder brother, Abubakar, arrived in Karachi and received the bodies from the Edhi morgue.
